If you’re new to me and the work that I do you might be thinking
What the hell is she talking about or perhaps even why the hell is she talking about it?
Well the thing is this …..my health and healing journey has been made up of many parts, it has been holistic in the way that it nourished, supported and transformed my Mind, Body and Soul to make me happy, healthy and fulfilled
And now I am blessed I get to share this in my work with with clients and also on a larger platform that has reached you too
Chinese 5 Element Theory is ancient and deeply woven wisdom nearly 3000 years old
It is used mostly in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Acupressure and Feng Shui
I was blessed to learn of The 5 Elements through my various Yoga Teacher Trainings,including the divine Yin Yoga and the lesser know Ki/Ryoho style
Which is (heads up) why you’ll see yoga incorporated into my sharings of this invaluable knowledge
5 Element theory/philosophy is based on the principle that all is interconnected – we are beings of wholeness and oneness. Our Physical self is connected to our Emotional self and our Emotional self is connected to our Energetic self and our Mental self, in such a way that they cannot be separated or treated as individual parts ( the issue with western medicine these days ……but that is another blog entirely)
The deeper layer to this is that our whole self ( the sum of all of those parts) is connected to others, to the environment, to the world and to the universe that surrounds us
For example – look at SAD ( Seasonal Affected Disorder ) the impact that gloomy weather or limited hours of light have on a persons physical, emotional and mental health ), or the universal energy felt across the globe during Covid
But not to digress to much !
Why is it so important to know about the 5 seasons and Elements, I hear you ask ?
The answer is simply this ……… when we live in alignment with the Seasons and the Elements, we are supporting our body to thrive optimally.
It means we have the awareness and therefore the knowledge to co-create with the energy, the themes and the lessons of each season.
Learning about this supports us to float down stream easily and gracefully in the direction of the energy around us and within us, as opposed to unknowingly causing unnecessary resistance or energy expenditure trying to go against the flow
If we have no knowledge of the cycles of life, seasons and our own bodies, then how do we know how to nurture and thrive optimally?
The 5 Elements and their associated season are
Fire – Summer
Earth – Late Summer
Metal – Autumn
Water – Winter
Wood – Spring
Each season has an element, energetic flow ( except for Earth which is neutral), emotional themes, archetypes, life lessons,organs and energy meridians and ways of identifying if we are in balance or out of balance.
Meaning that this knowledge is diagnostic and also preventative in nature
Once you can identify if you are in balance or out of balance for each element, this wisdom then gives you the tools to bring yourself into balance using food as medicine, yoga poses, balancing activities and affirmations for the element to restore harmony within you
I will share each element with you as we move through the seasons so that you can support your health and wellbeing optimally and feel in flow and aligned with the world around you
